| The advertiser, a supplier of cable programming, was
interested in providing its salesforce with a sales aid that could be
used on sales calls or at tradeshows attended by cable distributors.
The solution was a custom designed box easel containing printed
magnets and a worksheet. The magnets were color coded and imprinted to
identify the individual programs or program packages available through
the advertiser and its competitors. The magnets could be arranged on
the display board in any desired fashion so a complete program
schedule could be shown and then priced on the worksheet. The
presentation box was said to have been well received by the entire
industry but no tangible evidence was specified. |

| For college Spring Break season, the company used a
multi-tiered promotion to promote then-upcoming films. For example, to
promote the film "Robin Hood, King of Thieves," students
were given a chance to shoot a foam arrow at a picture of the Sheriff
of Nottingham. Those who hit received an imprinted T-shirt. The
company also created a maze where Spring Breakers had to locate
posters for five upcoming films. Those who found all five got a logoed
key chain or visor. |

Commemorative Gifts |
| When HBO, the premium cable channel, reached the
milestone of achieving 25 million subscribers, the company wanted to
commemorate the event in a lasting way for its key executives and
members of the board of directors. To do so, HBO used solid mahogany
chests, which were filled with 10 videotapes. The videotapes
represented key HBO movies and special presentations. The boxes
included a brass plate with copy recognizing the number of subscribers
achieved. Recipients commented that the gifts were among the
"nicest they had ever received." Two years after the
promotion, HBO was still receiving thank-yous and acknowledgements for
the gifts. |
