| "Experience The Difference" was chosen as the
campaign theme targeted to 9,000 new and continuing students at three
campuses to get them excited about Student Association programs. The
campaign kicked-off with 2,000 theme imprinted T-shirts distributed as
a premium at an on-campus pub with admission ticket purchase. At this
and other pubs, key chains bearing the "Driving Impaired Can
Kill" message were distributed. At the same time, 1,000
write-on/wipe-off memo boards imprinted with various student services
were distributed at events and locations throughout the school system.
To complement these activities, 2,500 fortune cookies with custom
messages promoting the general Student Association meeting, pub nights
and various association-sponsored events were distributed at a
"Chinese barbeque" held at each campus. The campaign was
supplemented with fliers, bulletin board messages, announcements and
promotion within the student handbook. The Student Association
president reported a 40 percent increase in pub night attendance and a
30 percent increase in student services participation. He also cited a
decrease in drinking-and-driving incidents. |

A watercolor depicting the college was painted
by Al Rounds, a well-acclaimed artist who had attended the college.
The painting was then reproduced onto commemorative porcelain plates
in a limited edition of 500. The painting was unveiled at an alumni
dinner and the plates were then offered for sale to attendees as a
fund-raiser for the alumni association. Due to popularity of the
plates, they were considering offering a second plate showing the
school when it was first founded.

| Martin Marietta and the Syracuse City School District
collaborated in this program to match corporate volunteers with
underachieving, at-risk students who might respond to proper role
models. A logo incorporating characteristics of the program was
imprinted on a variety of promotional products. These included
coffee mugs and T-shirts that were issued to teachers and potential
mentors during a breakfast to promote involvement and pens and key
chains to facilitators who taught training classes for mentors.
Students received a T-shirt and water bottle as gear for a camping
trip with their mentors. At a school year-end acheivement buffet,
students received plastic flying discs as a summer fun item and as a
reminder to continue with the program. The program chairperson
reported that mentor and student participation increased 250 percent
and the number of learning facilitators doubled over the previous
year. |
